I’ve been thinking of writing this post for a while but given the ludicrous outcome in today’s sentencing for the hush money case it’s time to get typing! How Trump Won the Election Much has already been written speculating on how Trump won the 2024 presidential election. Which demographic changed their votes from Biden in 2020 to Trump in 2024? Did young men not want a female leader? Were Muslims in swing states hoodwinked into thinking the Trump team had a solution to peace in the middle east?

His only criterion for nominating people is loyalty to him. He didn’t look at Project 2025 for his nominees, instead he sourced the list from the Onion. It feels like he’s taking the piss but unfortunately I think he’s deadly serious.

Trump is a Fascist. He’s openly talking about using the military against Americans with differing political views. At 50s into the linked video. The analyst after gives some helpful context if you’re not sure why this is a problem. Most horrifying to me are the people cheering on his dictatorship. Scroll down to the comments on this Fox article if you don’t believe me. I only saw one commenter calling out Trump’s remarks as a problem.

You’ve likely heard of Project 2025 by now. It’s the Heritage Foundation’s instruction manual for a Trump administration should he win. It lists policies to adopt and how to concentrate power in the executive branch to ensure they can be forced through. One section of that document that’s recently getting more attention is about banning pornography. I think there’s plenty of deserved criticism of the pornographic industry, but a ban is ridiculous and violates the first amendment.

Trump has been spreading lies about a Venezuelan gang taking over Aurora, Colorado. It’s not true. The truth according to the linked article is that there was a single incident in August and police have arrested one of the six suspects and the area is safe again. If Aurora was so unsafe then he wouldn’t be doing a campaign stop nearby. The secret service wouldn’t let him. So it’s bullshit. More racist lies to divide an already divided country.

For today’s light reading I turn to the Middle East. All Civilian Deaths are Unacceptable It’s a little over one year since Hamas committed their awful terrorist attack. About 1200 people were killed and 251 taken hostage. I condemn the attack. In the year since then, Israel have been using their military might to attempt to destroy Hamas. In the past month the war has widened to include attacks on Hizbollah in southern Lebanon.

Hurricane Helene was devastating. As I’m writing this, Hurricane Milton is about to hit Florida and it’s not going to be pretty. What is truly sick is the level of misinformation* and disinformation* coming from Trump, Elon Musk and other MAGA extremists. It has real impacts. It’s making it harder for those responding to the storms to do their jobs. People aren’t applying for the assistance they’re entitled to because of rumors they’ve read online.

I need to write about the Trump Bible. It’s in the news again because Oklahoma’s top education official has designed a corrupt process to buy them. Instead of buying regular Bibles for classrooms - already a waste of education funds and I say that as a Christian - he’s designed the bidding process so only the Trump Bible qualifies (Update 10/9: the tender process has been ammended so other bibles can also qualify).
