Project 2025's Pornography Ban

You’ve likely heard of Project 2025 by now. It’s the Heritage Foundation’s instruction manual for a Trump administration should he win. It lists policies to adopt and how to concentrate power in the executive branch to ensure they can be forced through.

One section of that document that’s recently getting more attention is about banning pornography. I think there’s plenty of deserved criticism of the pornographic industry, but a ban is ridiculous and violates the first amendment. Regardless of what I think about porn, if one or more consenting adults produce and publish a pornographic video, that’s their right to free speech. If other adults want to watch it that’s their right. Censorship doesn’t work – people have been making and consuming pornography since long before it was legal. Even if censorship worked, it violates our most fundamental freedom.

To be fair to Donald Trump, he hasn’t personally said anything on the topic that I know of. He’s in favor of porn stars: he cheated on his wife with Stormy Daniels then illegally paid her to stay silent from election campaign funds. But if he becomes president there would be advisors, cabinet members and government appointees that are onboard with Project 2025, including a full ban of pornography.

MAGA extremists have a strange obsession with making sexuality illegal. First it was banning abortion. Then they started talking about also banning IVF and contraception. Now it’s pornography. Let’s vote to keep them out of our bedrooms! Adults should be the ones making their own choices in all of those cases.
